The Art of Dressing

We all enjoy dressing up, getting ready be it for a formal conference at work, hanging out with friends, dinner with family , date night or the big day itself - wedding !
This blog will touch on some important points which play a crucial role in the way we dress & carry our persona also will try & define why dressing is an art.

There are few things to be kept in mind in order to enhance our dressing sense, the way we are, the way we want to be & the way in which we can portray ourselves the best.
These things may seem very subtle at first but the impact they make is huge & thats why due attention must be paid to them.

Know thyself
Self analysis is important & infact its the very first step towards enhancing the dressing sense. Knowing our likes & dislikes, keeping updates of the fashion trends in market & analysing accordingly whether it can be a part of closet are some keys which can give clarity to us on what should be purchased the next time we head to shopping.

Know your body
Knowing our body helps greatly in choosing the right kind of outfit for us for any occasion. Knowing your body essentially means knowing your best features, everyone has a set of unique best features in their body , in order to look good they should be kept in mind , & should always be emphasized through the kind of attire we wear.
For Ladies
Ladies should pay attention to the following features in their body & decide whats the best among them

Hands - if you are someone with long slender arms , do wear sleeveless or full sleeved dresses it enhances the look, also try to avoid loose fitting sleeves they may make ur arms look bulkier than they are & ruin the look.

Legs - alot of women have good looking legs, so yes , take pride & show them ! Women with long legs should wear knee length dresses, short dresses more often, wear heels they give you extra lift, also if you enjoy ethnic wear do prefer chudidars more than salwars , or palazzos.

Waist - if you have a perfect waist , you are lucky ! Do pay attention to it while dressing, wear skirts, dresses with belts to singe the waistline , tuck in your shirts , wear corporate skirts, for ethnics, make sure whatever you wear highlight your waistline.

Torso - if your torso is your best feature then crop tops, blouses , short length shirts are some of the best options for you, also you can stretch ahead & go for blazers , short jackets & tunics ,for ethnic wear prefer sarees & lehenga cholis

Shoulders - having shoulders as best feature is rare, also its tricky to highlight it, but in this case you can always prefer spaghetti straps , strapless dresses , halter neck dresses & tops. Basically wear anything that exposes your shoulders. Also formal shirts , blazers really give a classy appeal.

For Gentlemen
Gentlemen are often not that fussy & choosy about picking the attire before going out but that does not mean they don't care about how they look . Here are some keys to what best features gentlemen can choose to enhance while dressing.

Hands - if you are person not only with big but long hands prefer long sleeved t - shirts over short ones they make arms look longer, experiment with long sleeved jackets, blazers also tuxedos & long sleeved formal shirts.

Legs - men generally have the advantage of height more than women do so they have longer & taller legs than women almost all the times, to enhance their look do prefer slim fit jeans, formal trousers that fit snugly, for ethnic wear options do prefer chudidars over pathani salwars.

Waist - waistline in gentlemen is a rare feature but if you are blessed with good one , make every possible effort to enhance the look. Always wear a waistcoat , tuck in formal shirt , use overcoats which have belts to singe the waistline, wear jackets that emphasize waistline. While wearing tuxedoes & suits make sure they are slim fit.

Neck - most of the times it goes un- noticed but often men have a good neck structure as compared to women, if you are someone with a long neck do wear v- neck t- shirts, bow ties over conventional tie , don't wear high collar clothes that will hide your neck.

Role Models
Our role models help us not only to motivate ourselves but also they can be of great help to enhance our dressing sense.
Celebs, world famous personalities are always in public eye, they are in profession of looking good & dressing is a huge part of it.
When you follow someone notice how they dress, how they carry a particular attire, how they pair it with other accessories.
Pick your role models who will not only entertain you but will also make you a better person.
It is okay to copy the dressing style of your favourite icon but make sure you don't end up losing your self image in that process. Carefully analyse whether what they wear will suit you or not & if not don't be shy to make necessary changes in it.

The Occasion
We discussed in brief about how we should dress ? but with that we must know all that we can about when we should dress? . The occasion really matters while considering the dressing sense.
We all often end up going overdressed or underdressed at many of the occasions that we attend, to maintain the balance is bit of problem but can be achieved with simple tricks.

Day
If you are attending an occasion at day time make sure you dress while keeping the following things in mind.

• Don't wear very dark , vibrant or garishly coloured clothes unless specified in the dress code.

• If you have to wear dark coloured clothes make sure that they are in combination with a neutral or pastel tone.

• Prefer light, pastel shades, with a sheek & elegant appearance.

• Prefer solid colours, with delicate or minimal yet classy embroidery, for gentlemen shirts with light printed pattern work very well.

• Prefer a fabrics like linens, chiffon ,georgette ,synthetic , satin finish shirts for men, net ,lace.

Night
I personally love attending functions at night because the real dressing fest occurs there. Its very easy to overdress at night time function. Even then some things should be taken care of.

• Shiny, blingy, glittery clothes & all the possible vibrant colours is common choice that comes to mind for an evening function.

• Pick only one statement attire & pair it with some neutral garment to make the look eye catching

• for example women can choose either the top or the bottom which is heavily embroidered & pair it with neutral other half

• Men on the other hand can choose a bright shirt with neutral coloured suit, or a bright tie or bow tie with white shirt & black tuxedo, if you are wearing a waistcoat make sure its contrasts your shirt style.

• For ethnics, women can prefer plain dupatta with embroidered salwar suit or chudidar or vice versa & Men can prefer embroidered sherwani with plain chudidar or plain pathani salwar with a bright kurta.

• In night functions there is more scope to play with colours experiment with contrast colours, blend of neutral & brights etc.

• For formal events you can still choose light shades, neutrals & pastel colours unless bright colours are specified in the dress code.

• Fabrics can range from silk, satin , to heavily embroidered velvets. Enjoy experimenting with whole range of materials.

The Accessories
It cannot happen that accessories go without mention when we talk about dressing. I think accessories play the major role to uplift what you wear & give the entire look its photofinish effect.

Jewellery
Almost all women are suckers for jewellery no matter how much we have its never enough ! This applies even to me ! While we enjoy putting on our favourites & spending hours on trying what would look good ? we need to remind ourselves the following things

• Wear only 1 statement piece at a time.

• Never simultaneously wear statement earrings & necklace , don't wear necklace if earrings are large , if you have to wear one make sure its subtle enough & matches well with style of your earrings.

• Never wear a statement ring & bracelet or bangles in same hand.

• Always wear an armlet as a single piece, don't wear a bracelet or bangles in same hand.

• The only ring that can be worn with bracelet & bangles is your wedding ring.

• Never combine a wristwatch & bracelet

• Also pick your wristwatch according to your dress if you have multiple wristwatches

• For formal events , keep jewellery minimal , delicate & classy.

Comfort & Joy
The real art of dressing lies in what you are most comfortable wearing with, its all about enjoying the process of getting ready , experiencing the pleasure of looking good , & celebrating yourselves.

Hope this blog helps you to develop your art of dressing & the next time you attend an event may you be the person who makes people turn their heads!
