Productive in Lockdown

The pandemic has subjected us to various differences in our lifestyles, we have experienced a tremendous shift in the way we lead life & normal patterns of our daily routines. So how does one stay productive in such conditions ? This blog will help you to find some answers.

Introduction

We have harped about the problem enough, we know the problem so chewing on it anymore is a total waste of time. We must focus on what can be done in this given situation. To stay productive in these times of lockdown can be difficult for many of us, but it is not impossible if each one of us determines to do it.

The one thing that we have in abundance during lockdown is time, we have so much that we don't know what to do with it, so its very very crucial that this time is spent in constructive way. Because if we let the time occupy our thoughts depression, panic, anxiety is just waiting to capture us.
Our focus is not distracting ourselves from the surroundings but to be engaged enough that we don't have time to pay attention to negativity around us.
Lets see how we can make this possible.

No Super Goals

First key is not planning any super goals or high achievement targets, that is if you decide you will run 10 miles , then exercise, watch a movie & face time with friends in one day there is high chance that you won't feel like doing any one of these tasks.
Don't plan to complete 10 tasks in a day , plan for 5 & then see how enthusiastic you feel to complete other 5. This is because each day is different , our moods change , somedays its all good other days its hell to even pass an hour.

Create small & mini sets of targets to be attained in a day , its absolutely ok if you skip a couple but the objective is to complete simple easy tasks which take less time & are not gruelling enough to drain you physically & mentally. If you do 10 little tasks in a day you feel like you did alot of work & it also allows you to spend all your time in batches with intervals in between.

Routines

The importance of routines is way more than one can ever imagine. Our bodies, brain are designed to follow routines just like programmed gadgets. Everyday we do compulsory activities that make our routine. Lockdown broke that chain & disturbance is the result of it. To avoid this don't let lockdown affect your daily schedule.

Sleep early at night, wake up early in morning, start with your usual activities like having coffee, tea , cooking & having breakfast & then get set for completing all the tasks that you have planned for the day.
When your body follows this pattern day in day out you will feel better.
Alot of people couldn't sleep early at night during lockdown , this is because you didn't follow your routine, if you have a habit of working 8 hrs / day & suddenly you become a couch potato you cannot sleep early at night.
So in order to prevent this you must work 8hrs/ day in house. Do all the house chores, burn calories, exercise , go for a walk or jog in your area, be engaged in tasks which keep you fit physically & mentally.

The point is to be sufficiently active so that you feel sleepy , hungry & wake up at the correct time everyday.

Hobbies

If you have multiple hobbies well lockdown can turn into a blessing for you, its so important to have hobbies which help you to stay creative, productive & happy also its the best way to spend your time, you don't have to rely on anybody to make you happy & cheer your spirit.
As time is the only resource we have this lockdown, use it at its best potential to get engaged in hobbies, it can be anything from reading, painting, dancing to cooking, watching movies etc.

If you don't have any , then you have enough time to develop a few. Learn new things, discover yourself , find what interests you the most, gives you real pleasure & continue to stick to new ways of creativity.
See if you can convert your hobbies into social works & give back to society in any form. That in itself can be the biggest contribution.

New Skills

As we try to spend our time constructively learning new skills can prove very effective, we all want to learn something new & our day to day busy schedules don't allow us to dedicate as much time as we want to for learning new skills & things.

This lockdown can be used in the maximum effective way to learn new skills & practice them to perfection.
All you need is will power to take the first step. In this process you will also explore a new side of your personality & understand what are the things you can be really good at & what is completely out of your capacity. You will know what interests you the most & what you don't enjoy doing & why.
You don't always need a proper coaching to learn new skills you can learn by yourself or experiment a little to sail through. Internet is the blessing we have so use it to learn something & be inspired.

Self Compassion

All the above tasks are achievable only & only if you are in a good place physically & mentally. That is you must be healthy & happy. Self compassion can help you with that.

When there is enough negativity around you then there is no point in you joining the bandwagon instead disconnect from the outside world give time to yourself, love yourself , start maintaining your health & well being not out of fear but by choice.
We live in an unhealthy world where if somebody who is fit & healthy feels unusual that shouldn't be the case really. Staying healthy must be a natural thing.
Practicing self compassion is nothing but loving yourself & listening to your mind & body.
Here is how you can follow some practices.

• Eat healthy, stay physically active.

• Be kind to yourself

• Love yourself , take care of your mental health by doing what you love.

• Seek positivity from all sources available.

• If people around you are negative with you, don't get sucked in fights & arguments , get away & concentrate on your well being.

• Do things that give you mental peace , can be anything like yoga, meditation, listening to your role models, reading good books etc.

• Pay attention to your mind & body, look for the signs they give you & take care of it accordingly.

Summary

Staying productive in lockdown is a choice, you can if you want to, I personally never saw a point in sitting & whining about conditions because that is out of my control what I could do was to decide what is best for me & my well being & I did that.

This lockdown has not stopped me from being  productive & I wish that for all of you too who are reading this. My heart goes out to all those who couldn't make it through these tough times. & May God Bless every soul on this lovely planet.
